Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 6/24/2012

#AMPtv reports from Neilsen Soundscan that Waka Flocka Flame continues to lead the Rap releases in a week of transition. Kid Ink is Hip Hop's latest DIY success story, as B.o.B. gets a nice surge in the rankings for "Strange Clouds."

For the first time in several months, there were no Hip Hop/Rap albums debuting in the Top 200. In fact, no releases even showed up in the Top 25, another rarity in this year's Waka Flocka Flame's latest studio album led all Rap releases for a second consecutive week. Los Angeles, California DXnext emcee Kid Ink continued to move independent units digitally, staying high in the pack. B.o.B.'s sophomore project received a nice boost with its latest single, climbing 17 spots and even passing his collaborator and peer Drake, with his own second studio album.

Waka Flocka Flame's Triple F Life Comes First In The Charts

At just under 50,000 overall units, Waka Flocka Flame weathered the storm to lead Rap albums sales for a second consecutive week in his sophomore studio album, Triple F Life: Fans, Friends & Family. This is Waka's third Warner Bros. Records release, following last year's Ferrari Boyz project with early mentor Gucci Mane, and it's his second Top 10 album. Backed by the eventually-Drake-featuring single from 2011, "Round Of Applause," the album features Meek Mill, Nicki Minaj and the late Brick Squad member Slim Dunkin.

Kid Ink Wants To Permanently Tattoo Hip Hop With Up & Away

Producer/emcee Kid Ink may be the latest DIY Hip Hop success stories. The tattooed sensation's Up & Away crossed the 25,000 mark this past week, a powerful feat for Tha Alumni imprint. The 26 year-old did also work with Jahlil Beats and Cardiak on the 13-track effort backed by singles "Time Of Your Life" and "Lost In The Sauce."
