#AMPtv got the word that Kendrick Lamar, who has been nominated for seven Grammys in 2014, recently spoke about how he felt to hear he was nominated for awards and how different his life is today compared to when he started his career as a young kid from Compton, California.
"The reality of my existence now, I kind of had an idea of what it would be like, but it's definitely a lot more work than the eye could see," Lamar says in a video uploaded by Grammys' YouTube channel. "I always go back to just the thought of one person listening to my mixtape or demo or song to get your community to listen to it, or your neighborhood, your state, the West Coast, the East Coast and build up all the way to Grammy nominations, believe it or not."
The Grammys-sponsored video included a portion of the clip that mainly focuses on Kendrick Lamar's writing process and how it has changed over time.
"I'm meeting different people, different cultures so I'm constantly writing," Lamar says. "The process now is so spontaneous. It's whatever I get my hands on. Whenever an idea approaches, I gotta write it down. I gotta keep a mental note. Whether it's a napkin, my phone, a book or anything. Inspiration is everything. That's my main focus, my art, knowing it wasn't the hype, it wasn't press, it wasn't publicity stunts. It was the music from Day 1. I have to remember that."
The Grammys are set to take place January 26 in Los Angeles, California. The show is set to air live from LA on CBS. Kendrick Lamar and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis are set to perform at the event.
